Break the silence
An open appeal to human rights organizations and conscientious persons
Over the lawless actions … closures … arrests … and pledges
My colleagues in the local and international youth, human rights, women and humanitarian organizations and media in all locations … Do you remember how long we dreamed of a regime that removes off us the bitterness of occupation? Do you still remember that our conflict with occupation was a conflict with oppression and aggressions? Now, as we are subjected to arrest and suppression by our brothers, don’t we feel that we are subjected to the same oppression but with different hands!
We wonder and we have the right to wonder; doesn’t the absence of justice, law, freedoms and rights and whoever are the perpetrators represent a retreat and withdrawal of our dreams? Not only this, but that might reach to the extent that forces us to give up our humanity!
In the past few days, several citizens have been arrested in both Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Why we don’t break our silence and announce our attitude rejecting the illegal arrests? Isn’t it time to move and lobby for ending such violations? The most dangerous of such violations is to force the arrested persons to sign a pledge stating that they stop practicing legal acts, which are considered a part of their human rights and their rights as citizens.
How can we keep silent vis-à-vis the arrest of Mustafa Al-Ghoul? How do we allow his obligation to sign a pledge not to participate in Sharek’s activities? Is Sharek Forum now considered such a dangerous entity to the civil peace and security in Gaza?? How do we see a pledge that speaks about banning sex mixing “without legal relation”, does that represent legal or human action? In the future, this pledge might be used to ban sex mixing in transportation, institutions, universities, colleges and many other places of work!
My colleagues, conscientious persons … we have to stop condemning and start mobilizing our powers to defend our right to live as we want to live … not to live as others want us to live … Mustafa Al-Ghoul is not only a Palestinian citizen under arrest … rightfully, he is the title of our struggle for freedoms in Gaza Strip … on the land of Palestine.
