1CV & Interview

Getting a job requires more than simply having the right skills. You may be competing with 1000s of other candidates. During an interview you will have only 15-20 minutes to communicate why you are the best person for the job. Young people cannot rely on reputation or experience, so you must demonstrate potential and ability to learn.

2Leadership

Leadership is an essential skill for success. More than that, it is a life-skill that can improve your home life, social life and work life. A leader is a person who people respect and who respects others. He or she is a person who can inspire others to follow his or her chosen course. But good leadership is not about giving orders or forcing your ideas on others. These guides will help you teach yourself some of the essential skills a leader requires and to understand what it means to be a leader. With these skills, you will find you are able to succeed in work and outside.

3Communication

Communication is essential for success. More than that, it is a life-skill that can improve your home life, social life and work life. Communication skills are much more than simply talking well: a good communicator has the ability to share ideas, opinions, thoughts and plans; a good communicator listens and is organised; finally, a good communicator is effective in all types of contact from emails to presentations. With these skills, you will find you are able to succeed in work and outside.

4Micro-Business

Starting a business is extremely difficult but if successful, can provide you and your family with a stable income. This guide is focused on helping you navigate the process of getting your business started, from generating a good idea and doing the research to make sure it’s feasible and building the business into a sustainable income-source. This guide is all about micro-businesses – your first business which you start with up to $10,000. Anything bigger and you will need more complex financial systems and more focus on marketing and sales.

5Coaching

Coaching can seem like a mystery. What exactly is it? Coaching is helping someone else to achieve their goals to the best of their ability. This guide focuses on some key skills and methods to help someone get started coaching. In this booklet, we will use the term “coach” to refer to the person who is advising and helping. We will use the term “trainee” to refer to the person receiving the advice and support. You should not interpret this to mean that a coach is a trainer, simply that the trainee is learning form the coach.

6Living a Better Life

This guide will not in any way tell you how to live your life or what to do with your life. It is a humble endeavour which will merely give you something to think about or some ways to address issues that you are likely to encounter. It will mostly ask questions so think hard about the answers to get the most out of it.

7Rights and Equality

Rights and equality are some of the defining features of a society. Rights frame laws and endow governments with key responsibilities: to protect, promote and fulfil your rights. Equality frames human interactions and relationships: who you are and how people see you and think of you. Change, driven by advocacy, allows people to improve their situation and that of the people around them.
